In other words only a few people own billions of dollars worth of Bitcoin. As a result Bitcoin's concentration of money and power in the hands of a few presents barriers in mainstream mass adoption. To overcome these barriers and create a digital currency that would be fairly accessible and distributable to everyone, Pi Team developed a digital (crypto) currency that can be mined on a smartphone running either Android or IOS. This way anybody with a phone can mine Pi thus ensuring that the wealth, power and control created is evenly distributed. Is Pi A Coin Or Token? Pi is an IOU token. Main net launch Pi Network is yet to take place. IOUs allow users to buy, sell, and hold the native token of a blockchain that has not yet gone live with its final public network (“mainnet”). By creating markets for IOU tokens, price discovery for the underlying asset can occur before that asset becomes transferable over a live network. What Is The Value Of Pi Token? As of now PI doesn't hold any value as it is not listed on exchange like Bitcoin. Bitcoin also had no value when it was released in 2008. Hopefully initial value of Pi will emerge once Pi Network enters phase 3 of the project. Pi’s Core Team does not control when cryptocurrency exchanges (like Binance, Coinbase, Kraken etc.) decide to list Pi. However, Pi will be able to be traded in Phase 3 of the project (i.e., Mainnet). At that point, exchanges can choose to list Pi. This means that before phase 3, all "Pi" listings are in no way related to the Pi Network project.
